Pickup Swap | We Put Chisels in this Gretsch Jr. Jet with Triple Shot Mounting Rings!
This one gets pretty detailed by putting a set of Railhammer Chisels in this Gretsch Junior Jet but we used Seymour Duncan Triple Shot Mounting Rings to allow us to run these pickups in so many different ways. Check out how the Chisels sound in series, parallel and isolating a single coil out of each. Lots to hear!
Disclaimer: The 3-way selector was wired backwards post swap so while it may look like the neck or bridge pickup are selected it is backwards. The captions on the screen are correct!

    I have owned two diff Vintage 1980 and 1979 Ibanez Japanese made ST-50 guitars... and ive been usuing the same pair of Vintage super hot V-2 picups for them... But I am wanting to perhaps switch out my Bridge pickup for a Alnico Grande Bridge Humbucker, and I definatly want something MUCH Lower output in the neck, with a more P-90 SIngle coil style output ( yet fitting in the standard Humbucker slow of a 1979 Ibanez ST-50!) that I can hopefully get a nicely creamy, not over-powering of the fatness in the lower end of the bridge pickup when playing heavy rhythm, so that i can use it for Leads and ALSO for a alternate more bitey/creamy/singing sustaining tone without a huge bump in low end and volume when i decide to switch to the neck or middle to play rhythm... U guess I should get an Alico based Humcutter with a fairly medium/ow output... I do LOVE my vintge Ibanez V2 humbuckers but the neck was just way to hot ( they are both about 15.87kh ouput last time i measyred em,.. and right now I actually have the wesome Guild HB-1 bridge pickup from my burned to a near cinder Guild Polara ide only had for 2 years when some worthless evil bastard litteraly got away with throwing several gallons of gas into my home and nearly murdering my whole family on May 17th 2020... its a long long terrible story... and my best friend who had ommited suicide on Dec 16th 2019 had left me all his precious things like his jewelry and his bokkens we used to fence and spar with... so many tings... but they were just material posessions but... it does suck lsing such precious items... ayways sorry...) Which Humcutter would do the kind of thing I need from the Neck pickup? I am really digging having the Bridge Guild HB-1 in my neck positon because the V2 Bridge is 15.87kh output , and the HB-1 has a distinctive and slightly microphonic yone i love, but its only got 8.6 or so KH output.. they work well together!! I have a slightly smashed 1980 Ibanez ST-50 iused al the hardware on the 79 body i mansged to find agter many years yto get my old workhorse and the best guitar ive ever owned and one of the best ive veer played ...the old vintage ST-50 back ( seriously if you have never gotten to play a ST-50 or Studio series vintage ibanez, and if you love 24-fret Fender-scale 25" scale length fretboards.... the knecks on those guitars and the whole guitar is amazing... my dream guitar is a 1978 or so Ibanez IC-210 with the Phase and paralllel wired Triple-coil pickup... Ide love to see someone re-create that idea and modernize it! and add a single coild or a P-90 in the position litterlay butted up against the base of the fretboard... anyways... blababal.. My bad. Love yall!

  • @Aaron-zh4kj
    @Aaron-zh4kj 3 месяца назад

    I can't answer for everyone, but I prefer to hear more than anything what pickups sound like clean. Definitely, I want to hear them with gain too (I usually use an always pretty overdriven amp that I clean up with volume), but knowing what they sound like clean tells me the most. Pickups are like a paintbrush. I know if I'm painting with red, it will ultimately be red (for this reason especially, I think demos with fuzz can almost be pointless at times; a fuzz is going to mangle and make anything sound like fuzz). I need to know what shape the brush is (that would be something like EQ in this analogy), so I know what kind of brush strokes I'll get when I use it with different colors and textures; in other words, I want to know how it's going to hit the amp: really compressed and bassy or really articulate with lots of mids and highs that make you hear every string evenly.

    I’ve had the hyper vintage in a guitar awhile back, they are great pickups with superb clarity. They look a little different than your standard humbucker, but that shouldn’t put anyone off, the tone is totally there.

    How would these sound on an Epiphone Dot? Would I lose tone? I feel.lije Reeves is an eclectic enough player that he would want a lot of different sounds from his pickups.

    They work, along with the Cleancuts, to open up the potential of many traditionally one note, Humbucker equipped, guitars,~ Ibanez HSH, Charvel,PRS, ESP, - I've got them in my SG.

    I immediately thought vintage JM when I heard the CC's; you can get JM pickgaurds cut for just about anything now, though I think I'd go with a mini/Firebird style, or a FilterTron given the guitar involved.Where I think the CC's and the 90's come into their own is to broaden the tonal range of Tele bridges, or in any Strat position.Def made for the new Fender Pawn & Paranormal releases.An Ibanez Jem neck? Definitely.

    I’m so glad that you did this comparison! I think this pickup is an absolute sleeper! I installed the cleancut in the neck of my Mariposa with the intention of mimicking a jazzmaster clean tone. I think it compares quite favorably! Besides the obvious benefit of losing the 60 cycle hum. I feel like the natural compression of the cleancut has allowed my clean tone to sit in a mix easier. It’s akin to applying a light multi-band compressor. When striking the low and high strings simultaneously extended chords seem to hold up better. Additionally, it handles light overdrive beautifully! It’s my go to neck pickup for all indie rock applications

    It is worth noting that the stock pots are mini 250kΩ, rather than the 500kΩ typically used with humbucker; this will make pickups sound darker, which will probably be more pronounced with the 24-inch scale length. If the slide switches are DPDT, then the one with the horizontal jumper wire is the series/parallel switch. If the slide switches are too much bother, then you might consider combining Seymour Duncan Triple Shot mounting rings with a four-way blade switch if it fits (an old Tele mod, sometimes stock as in the Fender Classic Player Baja Telecaster).
